Citizen thanks city crew members for their work

A lot of items are certainly taken for granted that we never thank about, including everyday utilities. A Guthrie citizen wanted to be sure this was not the case toward three City of Guthrie employees.

The following was addressed to Guthrie City Manager Matt Mueller.

Dear Mr. Mueller,

You have a lot of unsung hero’s working for you!

Yesterday, three-line maintenance men were working in the alley behind my home …. Which is also the alley behind the Guthrie Jr. High.  They were repairing a large sewer cover.  They had large equipment and it was miserably hot.  There was no shade.  These men had on steel toe shoes, long pants, long sleeves and hard hats.  They were wet from perspiration.

I went out to thank them and just standing almost gave me a heat stroke.  These men were doing heavy work!  The gentlemen were Eddie, Ricky and their Line Maintenance Supervisor.  This was a real safety issue for the children.  I have seen them step on the cover … and one leg fall in … when children tried to replace.

Please pass along my grateful thanks for their dedication.  This is hard work under harsh conditions.  Their families needed to be thanked also.  I just know they have nothing left (energy-wise) when their shift/day is over!

Please thank again.  I truly appreciate and respect their hard work!

Respectfully,

Lillie M. East
