The Guthrie city council will meet Tuesday night and possibly vote to fill a vacant position on the council. In addition, they will consider action in regards to filling the open city attorney position.
The council will discuss and take possible action on appointing Gaylord “Z” Thomas to fill in the remainder of the Ward III position.
Thomas was elected and served two terms on the council from 2009-2017.
The vacancy came after Jason Smedley announced his resignation on November 6 due to his work life. Related article: Guthrie city councilman resigns post
Smedley became the fourth council member to resign since 2011.
In 2017, Smedley defeated Thomas in an election decided by nine votes (54-45).
The City of Guthrie accepted applicants for the position until November 27.
The Ward III term would be effective on January 15 and ending in May 2021.
Also on the short agenda, the council is expected to go into executive session to discuss employment of the city attorney and return back into session to consider possible action.
