Following a television report of a possible algae in the Guthrie drinking water, city officials had the water tested for several types of algae. The results are in.
“The results of the analysis conducted by Guthrie Public Works Authority (GPWA) show that there is no presence of blue-green algae at the raw water source nor in the treated water being distributed to consumers,” a statement from the City said.
“GPWA also tested for several other algae and microorganisms, and all were found to be absent in the treated water being distributed to consumers.”

The water analysis was conducted on Sept. 7 through Accurate Environmental Laboratories (AEL) in Stillwater.
The statement says, “The analysis was conducted in response to a report from KOKH Fox 25 in which Dr. Ming Yu, president of Red River Environmental, stated that she believed blue-green algae was the culprit for taste and odor problems and the possible cause of individuals becoming ill in Guthrie.”
Here is the report from Red Rock Environmental, which was collected inside a Guthrie home by Fox 25.
According to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the City’s drinking water is in compliance with primary drinking water standards.
Guthrie News Page requested comment from DEQ regarding the television station’s lab results as well as their own samples taken last week. So far there has not been a response, but is expected as early as Tuesday.
Officials encourages anyone with any questions regarding the testing results or process, is asked to contact Superintendent Lee Pearce at the Guthrie Water Treatment Plant at 405-282-0532.

This is encouraging and discouraging, because I live in Guthrie and my water is not drinkable, and I smell like potting soil after showering. In fact, my whole house smells like potting soil after having any inside water running. It is yellow and it smells horrible, so clearly something is wrong.
