The City of Guthrie has identified four water main replacements they want to see replaced to begin the process of improving the City’s water system. They are hopeful a developmental block grant will help fund the process.
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs.
Last month, city officials shared examples of the current water lines throughout the city that has been around for 100 years. Related article: Mineral residue piling up on City’s 100-year-old water lines
The water main replacements would include along US 77 over Bird Creek, along College Ave. from 14th Street to 11th Street, 16th Street from Logan Ave. to College Ave. and Noble Ave. from 16th Street to 12th Street.
In addition, the grant addresses replacing the water main abandon along Cleveland Ave. from 16th Street and 11th Street and valve installations.
With fees totaling $89,700, the total cost of the project is listed at $600,000.
The CDBG, if approved, would cover $299,999 with the City providing a match.
To help possibly land the competitive grant, through the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, the city council unanimously approved amending the water rate schedule for residential customers. The action is to help the City’s point system that the grant is graded on.
The residential fee for the first 5,000 gallons of usage was decreased by 15 cents to $35.45.
