The City of Guthrie has taken a major step toward enhancing public safety by purchasing land for a future second fire and EMS station. City officials finalized the agreement on December 2 for property located in the 4800 block of S. Division Street, just south of SouthPointe Baptist Church.
The land, previously owned by SouthPointe Baptist Church, was purchased for $200,000. The amount was negotiated by city staff and authorized by the Guthrie City Council.

The estimated cost to construct the new station is just under $5 million. Funding for the project is part of the Capital Improvement Projects program, made possible by an extension of the city’s 0.75% sales tax, which voters originally approved in 2016. In April 2024, citizens approved extending the tax from 2031 to 2046, enabling vital infrastructure improvements like the new fire station.
A citizen survey conducted earlier this year identified the need for a second station as a top priority for the community. The new facility is expected to significantly improve emergency response times across Guthrie, particularly in the city’s southern areas.
The city council has approved an agreement with Crossland Construction and Guernsey Architects for the design of the station. With the purchase of the land complete, construction plans will move forward, bringing Guthrie closer to achieving this critical enhancement to its emergency services.
