Original Story
The City of Guthrie released a statement on Thursday afternoon regarding a television report and the ongoing water issues the City is facing.
The statement reads,”Guthrie Public Works Authority (GPWA) and the City of Guthrie are aware of the latest reports from Fox 25 News concerning potential sources and causes of the odor and taste of Guthrie’s drinking water.
Upon reviewing the analysis performed by Red River Environmental Laboratory on September 7 and submitted by Fox 25 / KOKH reporter Jennifer Falsetti, staff confirmed the present water quality is compliant with Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality standards and found no indications of the presence of blue-green algae.
Fox 25, GPWA, and, as of today, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality will all have additional tests performed for blue-green algae. GPWA’s water testing will be conducted by an independent third party and will include both raw water and finished water being distributed to consumers. Results from these tests are expected to be available within seven days.
In the meantime, GPWA staff is continuing to analyze all drinking water collection, treatment, and distribution processes to create both short-term and long-term recommendations to address and improve water taste and odor. Once potential improvements and solutions have been identified, they will be brought before the Trustees of GPWA for decisions on system improvements.”
