City of Guthrie reports strong December tax revenues

The City of Guthrie saw a significant boost in both sales and use tax collections for December, according to the latest reports from the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

The city received $810,138.24 in sales tax revenue for December, marking a 14% increase—or $101,362 more—compared to the same month in 2023, when collections totaled $708,776.

City officials explained that the increase was partly due to a filing adjustment from a local retailer, which amended tax returns from the previous two months. While this resulted in an inflated December figure, the city’s year-to-date sales tax revenue shows a healthy upward trend:

  • Year-to-Date Growth: Sales tax collections are 1% higher than the same period in 2024, with $31,508 more collected.
  • Exceeding Projections: Guthrie’s year-to-date collections total $2,200,106, surpassing the projected amount of $2,150,000 by 2.3%, or $50,106.

In addition to the strong sales tax performance, the City of Guthrie saw a 4% increase in use tax collections, totaling $110,621.04 for December. This represents an increase of $4,213 compared to December 2023, when use tax revenue was $106,408.

However, like many other municipalities in Oklahoma, when examining the year-to-date performance for use tax collections, the numbers are less favorable:

  • Year-to-Date Decline: Use tax collections are down 8% compared to 2024, reflecting a decrease of $23,552.
  • Below Projections: The city’s year-to-date use tax collections stand at $281,609, which is 8% below the projected figure of $305,464, resulting in a shortfall of $23,855.
