City of Guthrie secures cyber security grant

In an exciting development for the city, Guthrie City Manager Eddie Faulkner announced during his report to the council that the city has been awarded a cyber security grant totaling $310,315.69.

This grant, aimed at bolstering the city’s technological infrastructure, marks a significant step forward in improving cyber security measures across various departments.

“That is phenomenal,” Faulkner exclaimed, expressing his delight upon receiving confirmation of the grant.

The funds will be used to make unprecedented upgrades to both hardware and software systems within the community. Faulkner highlighted the urgent need for these improvements, which have been delayed due to previous budget constraints.

“We needed to make these changes for a long time; unfortunately, budget restraints have prohibited that from taking place,” Faulkner explained.

The city recently faced challenges when email services were disrupted for nearly two weeks, underscoring the critical importance of enhancing cyber security measures to prevent such issues in the future.

Faulkner extended his gratitude to key team members, including Jessie Bryan, Dee Benson, and Greg Sullaway, for their contributions to securing the grant and advancing the city’s technology agenda.
