With only six weeks remaining until the highly anticipated Gentlemen of the Road Guthrie Stopover, that will feature the Grammy winning Mumford & Sons, the city council has approved to suspended a few ordinances to accompany the large event.

Crews have started to tear down the back stops in the Cottonwood Flats.

Crews have started to tear down the back stops in the Cottonwood Flats.

With over 35,000 tickets sold for the two-day concert event set for Sept. 6 and 7, city crews began cleaning out the Cottonwood Flats last week by adding gravel in the roadways and tearing down the little league baseball back stops and fencing.

Here are some of the changes that will be allowed beginning on Aug. 30 thru Sept. 9 in the downtown district.

– Temporary signs can be lower than eight feet above the sidewalk, curbs and any size allowed on windows.

– No sign permit is needed.

– OK to have noise after midnight

– Parks will be allowed to be open 24/7 (now close at 10:30 p.m.)

– People may consume low-point alcohol outside of licensed establishments from noon on Sept. 5 to 2 a.m. thru Sept. 8 in the following areas: Cottonwood Flats area, historic district (including Mineral Wells Park) and Noble Ave. to Vilas and Fifth Street to Ash St.

– Throughout the city, no city solicitors permits will be issued during the Gentlemen of the Road Tour. Only those vendors pre-approved by JAM Productions will be allowed to sell items outside. If a vendor makes arrangements to sell inside a building in a merchant’s store, the vendor can sell their products there. Only outside sales approved by JAM Productions are permitted.

  1. I wish the City would use this opportunity after this concert is over to build better baseball fields with real backstops, dugouts and bleachers!

  2. So, does this mean the ENTIRE city limits will be allowed to make noise after midnight? If so, I can foresee a LOT of very tired, angry people going to work on Monday morning.

  3. Will there be bicylce racks so those who choose to ride can park and lock em up?

  4. I wonder……….. why doesn’t the City go to these lengths for the 89er celebration? It is barely a celebration at all and yet they are bending over backwards for this band and their production company….. I don’t get it.

  5. AleeKat5 – the concert ends on Saturday. Everyone must be gone by 5 pm Sunday. Soooo..full nights rest for Guthrie on Sunday Night!
