City to begin major paving improvements on Oklahoma Ave. and Pine Ave.

The City of Guthrie is set to embark on significant paving improvements starting August 5, 2024, thanks to a $625,940 grant from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSSA).

In 2022, the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) announced $8.9 million in funding from the CRRSSA for projects eligible for Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) program funding. The City of Guthrie was awarded the grant for paving improvements along Pine Ave. and Oklahoma Ave.

The project, slated to begin on August 5, 2024, will involve milling and asphalt overlay on the following routes:

  • Oklahoma Avenue between Capital and Broad
  • Oklahoma Avenue between Pine and Noble Ave (Highway 33)
  • Pine Street from the bridge near the Kiwanis ballfield to Hillcrest

Residents and commuters should anticipate potential minor traffic delays, especially as the project coincides with the start of the 2024 school year. While no roads will be completely closed, traffic may be reduced to one lane in some areas to facilitate construction work.

Efforts are being made to minimize the impact on school traffic, with a specific focus on completing work in front of the Junior High before the school year begins. The attached schedule will help residents prepare for any necessary accommodations and plan their commutes accordingly.

These upgrades are expected to enhance the quality of the roads, providing long-term benefits to both residents and visitors.
