City’s sales tax begins on a good note with new fiscal year

With the start of the new fiscal year, the City of Guthrie is off to a good start when it comes to sales and use tax.

The City collected $557,544.33 in sales tax collections for October 2019. The numbers show an increase compared to last year’s $552,332.22 and before that in 2017 with $548,031.63.

In addition, the City brought in $58,389.01 in use tax this month for an increase of nearly 36 percent compared to last October.

“Positive start to the new year,” City Manager Leroy Alsup said.

The City began the fiscal year with a fund balance of $1.4 million for the fiscal year compared to $1.2 million in 2019. The fund balance in 2016-17 was only $374,863.
