With his former and future football coaches on hand, Guthrie’s CJ Ward signed his letter of intent to play with the Langston Lions.
“Something always exciting seem to happen when CJ got the ball,” Guthrie head football coach Kelly Beeby said to the large crowd inside the Guthrie High School library.
Beeby continued, “Every time CJ touched the football everybody got nervous. The Guthrie staff and the other team. You never for sure knew what was going to happen.”
Ward averaged nearly 9 yards per carry in his senior campaign. The speedy two-way player collected seven touchdowns and four interceptions.
“I want to thank everybody that has supported me in my journey all throughout high school,” Ward said with two Langston coaches on hand to take in the signing. “Thank you to the Guthrie community for everything that you have done for me.
Langston coaches said they look forward to adding Ward to their defensive back rotation.
The Lions finished the 2018 season with a 9-2 record, including eight wins in the final nine games of the year.
