A photo began circulating on social media on Thursday afternoon of insects allegedly inside the Guthrie High School cafeteria. Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson released a statement on the matter.
The photo, which was not date or time stamped, shows what appears to be cockroaches on a wall. The photo says “Guthrie High School” and is said to have been taken in the cafeteria.
According to one report, the photo was taken by a student, who was serving an in school suspension, around noon on Thursday.
“Obviously, what was contained in the picture is unacceptable,” Simpson said.
“When we were made aware of the picture our staff began conducting an inspection of the area. We treat our buildings for insects on a regular basis.”
In a press release, Simpson said, “Out of an abundance of caution, we have reached out to our contractor and they are planning to inspect the entire cafeteria this evening. If conditions warrant, they will apply additional treatments.”
Guthrie News Page has learned the contractor did not find evidence of a large amount of bugs as shown in the photo.
Simpson says the cafeteria is treated monthly and was last treated last month on April 18.
According to the State Health Department, the school has passed their last several inspections. In August 2016, the school was cited for insects/rodents. Shortly after, the school terminated the contractor after the findings.
