Inside the North Gym at Guthrie High School, silence and candle light filled the room as many came together for a candle light vigil for a sweet 19-year-old girl who suddenly passed away on Thursday.
Lexi Hastings was found unresponsive and rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. How or what happened is unknown. That concern is not the current concern.
Adults, students, coaches and children stood in the gym for silence, music, stories and prayers.
A friend of Lexi shared that she spoke with her on Tuesday and recalled Lexi saying, “this week is going to be great.” To some the comment may not make sense with the sudden loss, but for those who knew Lexi and her faith it makes some sense. Each person who spoke shared similar stories of faith.
On Friday afternoon, the Guthrie Lady Jays basketball team wore tape around their wrist with #play4lexi written out. Guthrie won the game over Southeast 46-31.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the First Southern Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
