Updated on July 3, 2024 — In a unanimous decision, the City Council has approved an amendment to Ordinance No. 3311, commonly known as the firework ordinance, allowing an additional day for discharging fireworks this year.

The newly approved date, Saturday, June 6, 2024, aligns with the annual firework show downtown, providing residents with an extra opportunity to celebrate.

As the 4th of July approaches, city residents can now purchase firework permits at Guthrie City Hall. Priced at $15 each, these permits allow for the legal discharge of fireworks during the extended celebration period.

Permitted Firework Times and Dates

Under the current ordinance, fireworks can be legally discharged on July 3, 4, and 5 from 10 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Potential Extension for Additional Day

The city council could consider an additional extension for firework celebrations by adding Saturday, July 6, to the permitted firework dates at a future council meeting. This follows last year’s decision where the council approved two extra days beyond the original ordinance.

Safety and Compliance

Residents are reminded to adhere to the specified times and dates for fireworks to ensure safety and compliance with local regulations.

How to Purchase a Permit

Firework permits can be purchased in person at Guthrie City Hall. The process is straightforward, and the permits are available during regular business hours. Residents are encouraged to obtain their permits early to avoid last-minute rushes and to ensure they are well-prepared for the festivities.
