During the regular scheduled Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting, commissioners welcomed the newly elected sheriff and appointed a chairman. In addition, the commissioners were informed of a retirement and the passing of a former county employee.
Less than 30 minutes after being sworn in, Sheriff Damon Devereaux was welcomed in by the Board of County Commissioners at their regular scheduled meeting.
“We would like to welcome you and congratulate you on the election,” District 3 Commissioner Monty Piearcy said.
District 1 Commissioner Marven Goodman responded by saying, “Congratulations on your election and we all look forward in working with you.”
Devereaux responded, “I appreciate that. I look forwarding working with you.”
Devereaux confirmed with Guthrie News Page the promotion of Troy Dykes as Undersheriff.
Piearcy voted in for Chairman
With the first meeting of the new year the BOCC needed to appoint a chairman and vice-chairman for the three member board.
District 2 Deputy Commissioner Mark Sharpton, who was filling in for District 2 Commissioner Mike Pearson who was absent for health reasons, made a motion to appoint Piearcy for the top spot and was followed by Goodman’s second. The final vote was 2-0 with Piearcy abstaining from the vote.
Sharpton made a motion for Pearson, who served as chairman for the last two years, to be the vice-chairman, but did not receive a second from Piearcy or Goodman. Afterwards, Piearcy recommended Goodman and was second by Sharpton. The vote was 2-0 with Goodman abstaining.
