The violent events unfolded Monday evening when Guthrie dispatch received a report of an assault involving a female victim in the 800 block of Sooner Court. Guthrie paramedics and police officers responded to the scene and discovered two additional victims suffering from injuries caused by blunt force trauma and a sharp object.
While first responders were assisting the victims on Sooner Court, another assault was reported just two blocks away in the 1000 block of Pinebrook Drive. The victim in this incident also identified Tonelis as the attacker and indicated that he had fled westward.
As reports emerged of Tonelis attempting to break into homes in the area, police located him in the 800 block of North Eastridge Drive. Following a brief foot chase, officers apprehended Tonelis in a wooded area east of North Eastridge Drive. A knife was recovered from Tonelis during his arrest.
According to family friends, all victims are said to be stable despite their injuries.
After being taken into custody, Tonelis was transported to Logan County Mercy Hospital for a medical evaluation. However, while handcuffed, he managed to escape from two police officers on foot. He was quickly recaptured and returned to custody.
Tonelis is scheduled to appear in court again on March 13 at 2 p.m. If he is able to post bond, he is ordered to have no contact with the victims.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with police commending the quick response and cooperation of first responders and residents in the affected neighborhoods.
