Guthrie, McGuinness, and Deer Creek’s boys cross country teams have been joined together all season long, in Class 5A, but the Jays are separating from the pack this coming weekend.
The third ranked Jays will run in the Class5A Tulsa regional, at O’Brian Park, with a start time of 2:45, Saturday, October 23rd.
A season ago the Jays captured the regional championship at O”Brian Park and, again this season, are expected to be challenged by Bishop Kelley and Tahlequah. Tahlequah is ranked fourth while Kelley is ranked fifth in the state.
“Tahlequah has a good program and they will be tough up there (Tulsa),” Guthrie head coach Clay Tarter said. “We will come into the regional well rested.”
McGuinness remains the top ranked team and are the favorites to win the state title. Deer Creek is ranked second overall and has made a big push late in the season and will challenge the Irish for the state title next week, in Edmond, along with the Jays.
Guthrie’s junior Jonathan Ogan and senior Zack Cates will be the favorite’s to win the regional race.
