Logan County Emergency Management Director David Ball has been named Oklahoma’s Emergency Manager of the Year.
The award was presented Wednesday evening at Oklahoma Emergency Management (EM) Association’s annual conference awards dinner in Norman.
“Still can’t believe I was awarded EM of the year for 2018,” a humble Ball stated on social media.
The award is presented to a paid EM director in recognition of his outstanding work to better the profession. Criteria to be considered includes advanced training, community relations, program development, successful management of a disaster and contributions to the profession.
Woodcrest Fire Chief Luke Young attended the event and says the award is deserving.
“I know I speak for many of the fire chiefs in Logan County when I say he is fantastic to work with and so caring for all the citizens of Logan County,” Young said.
Crescent Fire Chief Grady Birchfield echoed the sentiments.
“Well deserved for a man that selflessly gives more time than most to Logan County. The fire departments of Logan County can’t thank you enough for all you do for us.”
Ball has served as the Logan County director since May 2008.
Ball helps prepare, implement and exercise preparedness plans and also by assisting local city’s within the County with training for and mitigation of disasters and by coordinating actual disaster response/recovery operations. Among other tasks, Ball also assists with county-wide storm spotting, tornado alerting, flood watches, road closings and the clean up of hazardous material spills.
