Fresh off a NAIA National Championship, Guthrie’s Emily Davis also collected some honors off the basketball floor.
Davis helped lead the Oklahoma City University women’s team to a 35-1 season and with a 69-48 win over Union (Tennessee) to capture the program’s sixth national title. See related story: Guthrie’s Davis wins college National Championship
Davis, a two-year captain for the Stars, became a two-time NAIA scholar-athlete award winner by maintaining a 3.50 grade-point average.
She contributed 2.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.92 steals a game, but here next honor showed her importance on th team.
Davis, who is majoring in early childhood education, was named as C0-Sportsmanship of the Year by the Sooner Athletic Conference.
After a 13-hour bus trip back home from Kentucky, Davis was excited to be back in her home town of Guthrie.
“We did not much get sleep last night despite the long drive. It is truly amazing,” a smiling Davis said.
