Davis wins school board seat; Case, Purvis advance to April 4 election

It was a well-below voter turnout on Tuesday for the Guthrie school board and city council elections. Less than five percent of eligible voters decided the election for the school board seat.

With 408 votes, or 60.99 percent, Gina Davis took the election by 147 votes over Eddie Lynn for Ward 6 of the Board of Education for Guthrie Public Schools. Lynn collected 261 votes, or 39.01 percent.

Results are not official until the Logan County Election Board certifies all the votes on Friday.

Davis collected 28 absentee votes, while Lynn brought in 10. Both candidates collected 16 early votes. Davis won the Election Day numbers by a count of 364-235. Davis won 11 precincts compared to three precincts for Lynn. Three precincts did not collect a vote.

In total, there were 13,896 eligible voters within the Guthrie school district, but only 669 casted their vote, or 4.81 percent.

Case, Purvis move on to Municipal Election

Jim Case and Price Purvis piled up more votes than Stefani Fortney to advance to the April 4 Municipal General Election.

Case collected a total of 91 votes (46.67 percent) compared to Purvis’ 74 votes (37.95 percent) and 30 votes (15.38 percent) for Fortney.

Fortney gained two absentee votes with Case and Purvis not collecting any. Case brought in five early votes compared to two each for Fortney and Purvis. On Election Day, Case had 86 votes, while Purvis had 72 and Fortney with 26.

Both Case and Purvis each won two precincts.

Of the 2,079 eligible voters within Ward 1 only 195, or 9.37 percent, casted a vote.

In the upcoming April Municipal Election, all three wards and mayor position will be decided on the ballot for the Guthrie city council.
