Desiree Brown announces her candidacy for District 31

Desiree Brown has had a change of heart and has announced her candidacy for the Oklahoma House of Representatives District 31.

Brown, who withdrew her name as a District 3 Congress member, says she’s can better serve Oklahoma now and Washington D.C. in the future.

“Although I previously announced that I was running for Congress after thoughtful consideration and prayer, I feel the best way I can serve Oklahoman’s is in the State Legislature,” Brown said in a video posted on July 30 on Facebook.

“I’m sorry if I have disappointed you, but I feel like I can serve you better here and with the experience I gain I can serve you in the future in Washington D.C.”

Brown, who grew up in Newcastle, says he understands that government was founded upon limited and enumerated powers. Everything else is left to the states, or the people.

Brown, a Republican, currently lives in Edmond has been married to her husband, Jeff, for 14 years. After graduating from Newcastle she met Jeff, who recommended she work for AT&T. After three and a half years of sales and a year of technical school, she received a transfer to Enid as a Cable Splicing Technician. She has worked for AT&T for 13 years.

She attends the Edmond Campus of Crossings Community Church.

Candidates for federal, state and legislative offices can file for offices April 11-13, 2018.

Incumbent Jason Murphey (R) will term out in 2018. A constitutional amendment, approved by voters, implements a 12-year term limit, restricting legislators to a total of 12 years in the Oklahoma Legislature.
