Don’t believe your own press!

Bookmark and Share

I have taken some time observing updates by myself and other people using social media to say something to public and private citizens.  I tried to focus the reflection on myself, which is hard to do. It’s difficult to evaluate ourselves with complete honesty. In my search I came across an article that touches on the obsession of getting some pride based need fulfilled. http://bit.ly/1fS0X7H
Mark SharptonIn this reflection I needed to search as to why I post updates. Updates by anyone are of human nature and can head in a wrong direction if not kept in check. Now I am not indicting anyone but myself here. Clearly there is a difference between the press and the press release. I have been blessed with the local papers using what I have written. It is to keep the people informed. I want you to know what we are doing on your behalf. I want you to feel part of Logan County work, after all you own it. Sometimes I will do a fundamental government piece, trying to explain what I understand our founders created for this Country. Occasionally I will touch on other subjects that are real threats to the Nation’s independence and future. But sometimes self-serving propaganda comes out.
I am not the important one in my relationship with the constituent’s, you are. I try not to release stuff I write in the 3rd person, pretend it just appeared in what I am writing or posting. I do not have the oratory skills as others I have read. I am plain spoken and try my very best to be honest and open. When you know one wrong word will have 1000 knives coming behind it, it becomes a little stressful. I think this is a weak spot that we all possess; it turns the human tendencies to protect oneself on. That’s where the self-praise and the grandiose attitudes can come in. I just want to say I appreciate you reading the updates I send out and it is still about YOU, not me. I am humbled that you have chosen me to serve you and I do not forget who I am or whom I serve.  If I ever do get arrogant or think have the higher moral ground than anyone, my Mother is still around to remind me just how unimportant I am without your blessing. I intend to run for reelection for Commissioner District 1 and wanted you to know, I have not fallen in love with looking at my name in the news. A White House Press Secretary once said “not only should you not believe your own press you probably shouldn’t believe your opposition blogs either.” Good Advice for all that writes and reads what is put out.
