He simply continues to amaze people, but for some reason we keep allowing Donte’ Foster to surprise us. All Foster has done since high school is amaze. His most recent amazement came on Saturday when he captured Ohio’s career touchdown receptions record.
The Bobcats took down their rival Miami (OH) University, 41-16, and in the process Foster hauled in eight catches for 122 yards and three touchdowns to set the record with 20 TD grabs.
“A lot of credit goes to him in terms of mental and physical toughness,” Ohio head coach Frank Solich told the school’s website. “And when you combine that with really outstanding athletic ability, you got yourself quite a player.”
Foster’s first college touchdown came back in the 2010 New Orleans Bowl.
Foster, a 2009 Guthrie alum and current Bobcat captain, helped lead Guthrie to a football, two basketball, and three track state championships.
When Foster captured the school record grab he surpassed a former teammate in Lavon Brazil and Terrance McCrae.
“I took everything from him (Brazil), I just sat back and watched him do everything he did on the field,” Foster said. “I’d get in the film room and watch him, I still try to imitate my routes just like him, but he probably does it a little bit better than me. He’s a little bit faster, but I just tried to take some of his techniques.”
The touchdown king and the Bobcats still have four regular season games left on the schedule and currently stand at 6-2 on the season.
Foster started his college career for the Seminole State basketball team where he averaged 12.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.8 assists per contest from his guard position. He led the Trojans to the finals of the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Region 2 Tournament, earning All-Tournament honors in the process.
While at Guthrie High School, Foster was named All-Oklahoma as a senior after leading Class 5A in receiving yards and earned all-star honors from the OFBCA (Oklahoma Football Coaches Association) and CoachesAid.com, a website and media outlet dedicated to high school sports coverage since 1999. He was also a quarterfinalist for Oklahoma’s Mr. Football honor during his senior season. As a junior, Foster, who played for head coach Rafe Watkins, helped lead the BlueJays to a Class 5A state title. During his junior and senior seasons at Guthrie, Foster amassed 80 catches for 1,408 yards with 25 touchdown catches. He also totaled 163 yards on the ground for three more scores.
Foster made national fame with his buzzer beating shot with his back toward the goal. To view the shot and his incredible one-handed football catch click here.
