DPS: Fatality report for the month of June 2015

Preliminary information from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety shows 63 traffic-related fatalities in June 2015, compared to 51 in the same month last year.

Ad GSPDuring the month of June, 17 motorcyclists and six pedestrians died in crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include 17 deaths on Saturdays, dropping to nine on Wednesdays and Fridays. There were five days in the month of June with no reported fatalities.

Three of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Some 58 of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and five were non-residents. There were 46 male and 17 female victims. Ten of the fatality victims were age 20 or younger. The 16- to 20-year-old age group led the fatality count with 10, followed by the 61-65 and the 41-45 age groups with seven each.

Oklahoma County led the state with a total of 10 fatalities, followed by Tulsa County with nine fatalities. The highest number of fatalities occurred on U.S. Highways with 14. There were 11 fatalities on Interstate Highways and 10 on State Highways.

Some 48.6 percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
