Department of Public Safety officials report 63 fatalities in September 2013 compared to 78 in the same month last year.
During the month of September there were 14 motorcyclists and eight pedestrians who died in traffic related crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include 17 deaths on Saturdays, dropping to 11 on Mondays. There were three days in the month of September the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.
Seven of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Fifty-one of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and 12 nonresidents. There were 39 male and 20 female victims.
Eleven of the fatality victims were under the age of 20. The 41- 50 year-old group led the fatality count with 15.
Oklahoma County led the state with a fatality count of eight followed by Tulsa County with seven fatalities.
The highest number of fatalities occurred on State Highways with 20. There were 14 fatalities on US Highways.
Fifty-three percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
