If you’ve ever had an Olympic dream, you know about all of the hard work and training it takes to get to the Games. The same holds true for members of the medical staff and one doctor from Guthrie will get that opportunity.
Olympic-caliber athletes need medical care in the unfortunate event of an injury, but they also need help pushing their bodies to perform at their maximum potential. Doctors of chiropractic who specialize in sports injuries and physical fitness are the ideal practitioners to provide that care, being uniquely equipped to handle both injury and recovery treatment, as well as to help athletes prepare for the competition.
Dr. Dawn Hacker has been selected to treat Team USA athletes at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., this summer.
Dr. Dawn will serve at the training center’s Sports Medicine Clinic from June 18 through July 3, just weeks before the start of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
“This is a dream come true,” Dr. Dawn said. I have watched the Olympic Games for as long as I can remember. Being involved with sports my entire life, and my love for my profession-this is the perfect way for them to combine.”
Onsite athletes during that period include weightlifters, gymnasts, pentathletes, triathletes, wrestlers and Paralympic swimmers.
“Being there with Team USA before they leave to represent us in London, will be a tremendous honor and an amazing opportunity. I cannot express how blessed and humbled I am that I, a small town girl from Altus, Oklahoma, have been called upon to treat these amazing athletes on such a large stage,” Dr. Dawn said.
In order to be selected you must complete the application process, have two years experience with a sports team, have the 100 post-graduate continuing education certification or the 300 hour post-graduate continuing education Diplomate. Dr. Dawn worked with Guthrie Wrestling this past year, covered various other sporting events.
She received her Diplomate in 2011. To earn a Diplomate, it is 300 Postgraduate continuing education in sports medicine, and must have 100 hours of on field experience, pass a written and oral exam, and publish an abstract.
Dr. Dawn’s Chiropractic Care Center is located in downtown Guthrie at 208 W Oklahoma.
“I will never compete for a Gold medal, but in my book, this is pretty close,” Dr. Dawn concluded with.
