Two small earthquakes shook Guthrie residents awake early Sunday morning, according to data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The first quake occurred at 1:24 a.m., registering a magnitude of 2.9. It struck at a shallow depth of 1.2 miles, with the epicenter located just south of State Highway 33 and north of Cooksey Road.
Just six minutes later, at 1:30 a.m., a second quake registered at 2.4 magnitude. This one struck deeper, at 1.9 miles below the surface, with its epicenter near Redbud Trail and Westminster Road in southern Logan County.
Although some residents reported feeling as many as three tremors, only two were officially recorded by the USGS.
No injuries or damage have been reported, but the back-to-back quakes were enough to startle those trying to rest through the night. Many took to social media to share their experiences and confirm the unexpected shaking.
