Tragedy struck a Guthrie family over night with a house fire on the town’s east side that claimed the life of a teenage boy early Saturday morning.
The Guthrie Fire Department was called out to a house fire in the 700 block of E Springer at 12:39 a.m. with one person trapped upstairs of the two-story structure.
Within moments of the call, two Guthrie police officers arrived to the home and gained entrance. However, the officers were immediately encountered with heavy smoke and were forced to exit the home.
Two family members were able to escape the residence, but a 15-year-old male was unable to do so. The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are not releasing the identity or the cause of the fire as they continue to investigate the scene.
The fire appears to have started in an upstairs room that eventually made its way to the roof.
The Oak Cliff Fire Department aided Guthrie in fighting the fire and after 70 minutes was able to put the fire completely out. Fire crews started to return back to the station just after 4 a.m.
