On Thursday Logan County was dealing with grass fires. Fast forward to Friday and the county was hit with four earthquakes in a span of 34 minutes.
In total, the US Geological Survey recorded eight quakes in the Guthrie area, but the last quake to strike was the largest as hit 4.0 on the richter scale.
The largest earth shaker hit 10:05 p.m. seven miles south of Langston and 10 east-southeast of Guthrie. The epicenter was south of Highway 105 on N Indian Meridian Road.
Several residents in the Guthrie area felt the tremor. In fact, one resident in Oklahoma City said they felt it as well.
No other quake measured greater than a 3.0, but six of the eight quakes were in the same general area as the 4.0 quake. Two of the quakes were registered north of Guthrie.
So far there have been no reports of damage or injuries associated with any of Friday night’s earthquakes. According to USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
