This year’s Langston University National Alumni Association Chapter #137 scholarship recipient was awarded to Ethan Stevenson of Guthrie.
This prestigious organization stands for its commitment to student welfare. The LUNAA bestowed this accolade upon Ethan, a sophomore, majoring in health, physical education, and recreation with aspirations of a career in Physical Therapy.
Ethan expressed gratitude for the support he receives from his parents and others in his community. Stevenson remarked, “It’s been a great experience. A lot of love from people like Mr. Braggs and the Alumni committee helping students out, and I’m really appreciative… I got very lucky.”
The LUNAA Scholarship was presented by Donzella Allen, treasurer of the LUNAA Guthrie Chapter #137 an esteemed alumna of Langston University. Reflecting on the mission of the LUNAA Guthrie Chapter #137, Ms. Allen shared, “When we were chartered, our mission and goal was to help students from Guthrie. We know how it was when we were students and it was a struggle, and it always seemed like during your senior year, you run out of funds, and you need additional financial assistance.”
Ethan applauded his freshmen academic advisor, Jennifer Myrick, who commended him, stating, “He’s doing so well, he’s a good young man with good roots.”
Ethan’s exemplary academic record, boasting a 3.8 GPA played a significant role in earning this scholarship. “I just stayed focused, worked hard, and didn’t get too distracted,” he shared.
The LUNAA Scholarship is specifically designated for students attending Guthrie High School who maintain a 2.5 GPA or above and choose Langston University as their academic institution. Allen expressed her satisfaction with their choice of Langston, stating, “I’m glad that they decided to come to an HBCU where they know they can make it and we will help them.”
