Fatal crash on I-35 claims life of Stillwater woman

A tragic collision in the early hours of Saturday claimed the life of a Stillwater woman on Interstate 35 near mile marker 157 in Logan County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that Kerrie Jones, 41, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu northbound in the southbound lanes of I-35 at approximately 2:53 a.m.

The vehicle left the roadway, veered between concrete barriers at the State Highway 33 bridge, and became airborne before crashing onto State Highway 33 below. Upon impact, the vehicle caught fire.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene by Guthrie EMS due to injuries sustained in the collision.

She was extricated by the Guthrie Fire Department after being pinned in the vehicle for approximately 10 minutes. Her body was transported to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City by Alpha & Omega Mortuary Service.

The cause of the collision and Jones’ condition leading up to the crash remain under investigation.

This incident temporarily disrupted traffic in the area as emergency crews responded to the scene.
