Department of Public Safety officials report a decrease in traffic fatalities. There were 33 fatalities in December 2012 compared to 46 in the same month last year.
During the month of December there was one motorcyclist and two pedestrians who died in traffic related crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include eight deaths on Saturdays, dropping to seven on Fridays. There were 14 days in the month of December the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.
One of the fatality crashes was alcohol-related. Twenty-seven of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and six non-residents. There were 18 male and 15 female victims.
One of the fatality victims was under the age of 21. The 21 – 30 year-old age group led the fatality count with 11.
Logan County led the state with a fatality count of four, followed by Tulsa County with three fatalities.
The highest number of fatalities occurred on State Highways with 12, followed by five on US Highways and City Streets.
Forty-five percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
