Fatality report for the month of July

Department of Public Safety officials report 51 fatalities in July 2013 compared to 60 in the same month last year.

Guthrie News PageDuring the month of July there were 12 motorcyclist and three  pedestrians who died in traffic related crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include ten deaths on Saturdays, dropping to eight on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. There were six days in the month of July the Department reported no fatalities.

One fatality crash was alcohol-related.  Forty-three of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and eight nonresidents. There were 32 male, 17 female and two unknown genders reported.

Four of the fatality victims were under the age of 20. The 51-60  year-old age group led the fatality count with 15.

Oklahoma County led the state with a fatality count of nine, followed by Tulsa with seven fatalities.

The highest number of fatalities occurred on US Highways with 13. There were 12 fatalities on State Highways and City Streets.  

Fifty-two percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not  wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
