A total of nine dogs were unable to escape a burning metal building early Wednesday morning.
The Guthrie Fire Department (GFD) responded to the 1900 block of E. Prairie Grove around 6 a.m. and arrived to a fully-involved metal building.
Inside was a female dog and her eight puppies. All nine did not survive.
According to fire officials, a heater was left on to keep the animals warm.
The lamp appears to have been too close to combustibles inside the building causing the fire.
GFD needed 40 minutes to extinguish the flames.
Sooner Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the blaze.
