The First Capital Triathlon is scheduled for the 18 of July. We’ve had around two hundred athletes participate in the past Triathlons. We will be adding another event on the same day and we hope to have a record number of participants! Along with our traditional Sprint distance we are adding an Olympic distance which will add many more elite athletes to our numbers. Both events are sanctioned by the USAT and will have a USAT certified race director. We are working with Roger Gartman this year to produce the tri. He is pretty much the king of all things that involve running in central OK, and we are excited to have his expertise….AND he is a hometown guy – born and bred in Guthrie! He will be having “splash and dash” events in Guthrie aimed at young people also – check out our community calendar for information at www.guthrieok.com or www.firstcapitaltri.com
Growing Guthrie Leaders are going to take a two week break and will resume on the 27. Watch for the next General Meeting and invite anyone you think might enjoy learning about leadership. The Leadership Revolution Team has been meeting at noon for several weeks now. The members that have been coming have been very enthusiastic about what they are learning. We hope that others will be ready to join the noon group soon! We are still looking for mentors to begin sharing their wisdom with these future leaders. If you are interested in helping the next generation of Guthrie’s leaders prepare for their responsibilities, please contact us at the office – 405 282-1947.
May 20 Chamber Coffee will be hosted by our new mayor Steve Gentling at 312 W. Oklahoma Avenue. Feel free to come and bring your friends to meet Steve. Coffee begins at 9:30am.
Congratulations to Dr. Mike Simpson of Guthrie Public Schools and his team of volunteers, students and teachers who worked so hard in getting information out to our citizens to get the school bond passed this week!
