Update (Oct. 22 7:30 p.m.) – Guthrie News Page has learned this house fire is now under investigation for arson. GNP will have updates as they become available.
The Guthrie Fire Department got an early wake up call Monday morning after responding to a fire on the town’s west side.
Shortly after 3 a.m. a neighbor saw smoke coming from a house at the intersection of 12th and Mansur.
Battalion Chief Charlie Stowe told Guthrie News Page that the fire was coming from the attic and that the firefighters were able to keep the visible flames to that area of the home.
A Guthrie police officer was quickly on the scene and found the home to be engulfed with smoke.
Stowe said it is uncertain how the fire started and it remains under investigation. Along with the damage in the attic, the home sustained water and smoke damage.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
Animal Control was called to the scene to help remove two dogs, who were caged just outside the house.
It is unknown on the dollar amount of damage.
Oak Cliff Fire assisted the Guthrie department.
There were no injuries reported at the scene.
