When the Guthrie football team makes their home debut Friday evening so will the newest member of the Guthrie Fire Department.
Thanks to a Homeland Security grant, the fire department received an EMS Skid unit for their 6×6 Polaris. The department has had the Polaris for about a year thanks to another grant the station was awarded.
The skid unit is an effective way to put the Emergency Medical Technician right next to the patient transport out of rough terrain, wildland situations and inside stadiums on an ATV vehicle.
It is designed to carry one patient on a full size standard ambulance stretcher and one EMS attendant. The stretcher rides inside the unit and attaches in much the same way as the average stretcher is attached inside an ambulance.
