3:30 a.m – One person is dead after a control burn quickly got out of control shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. In addition, several structures, including homes, and vehicles have gone up in flames.

Guthrie FireGuthrie News Page has learned a 56-year-old male refused to leave his home after deputies warned him about the fast approaching fire. Although, family members have been notified, authorities are not releasing any information at this time until the Medical Examiner completes its investigation.

The first sign of trouble came at 4:26 p.m. when the Woodcrest Fire Department was called out to a grass fire near the intersection of Forest Hills and Pine. Before they could arrive, the near 100 degree weather and stiff south winds quickly set the blaze out of control.

At last word at 3 a.m. the fire continued to burn north of Prairie Grove between Midwest Blvd and Douglas Blvd.

Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow says an estimated 4,000 acres has been charred and the amount of structures lost in the fire continue to rise. The last official count was six occupied homes lost in the fires.

Several fire task force from around the state arrived to fight what seem to be a no-win situation. Along with fire crews, law enforcement from the county, Oklahoma County and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol helped warn possible victims and crowd control.
