Another major step is about to be completed on the five mile paving project of Midwest from Waterloo to Forrest Hills (No Name) and No Name from Midwest to Pine. On February 22, Midwest was paved from Charter Oak to Simmons. On June 19, Midwest from Simmons to Waterloo was paved. We are just about ready to finish No Name, the third mile, between Midwest and Pine.

After clearing right-of-way of trees and brush, grinding up the old chip seal, re-establishing the road base with shale and installing four tinhorns, we have contacted Atlas Paving Company about laying asphalt on No Name. About the middle of this month we plan to put the final grade on the road. After that Atlas will lay 2 ½” of asphalt 22’ wide. We realize the road work has been an inconvenience for those who live on this mile section, but believe the improvement will make it
all worthwhile.
We are constantly making plans and monitoring funds for future road improvements. As mentioned in last week’s update, we recently turned in four applications for Rural Economic Action Plan (REAP) grants.
This past week we reviewed the latest Oklahoma Department of Transportation five year list of County Improvements for Roads and Bridges Program (CIRB) funding. The ODOT representative has been very helpful in confirming that the money will be available for each of our projects.
We have now turned attention to organizing a list of roads which could qualify for federal funding through the Transportation Improvement Program administered by the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments. Only roads designated as “Collector” roads by the Federal Highway Administration qualify for this program. These applications will be due next month.

Of course, the speeders love it because it is a much smoother run from Midwest to Seward……..Oh well, it will always be something! We thank you for a job well done.
