Flood level inches over “flood” stage

Guthrie has seen larger floods in the past, but rivers and creeks found their way out of their banks in Logan County over a two-day period causing roadways to flood and shut down for several hours.

Highway 33 (Noble Ave.) on Guthrie’s west side was under water to halt traffic for just over 10 hours before being reopened.

With a crest measurement of 22.10 feet, the flood was classified as a “flood” level. Flood stage for the location is set at 22 feet.

City crews shut down Noble beginning from the viaduct bridge up to 10th street at 3:45 a.m. on Monday and reopened the road at 2 p.m.

Locally, Guthrie received 3.68 inches of rain over a five-day period, but heavier rains in northwest Oklahoma City found its way to Edmond-Deer Creek’s Chisholm Creek and Bloody Rush Creek all which drain into the Cottonwood.
