Floyd Coffman has finally secured victory in the Republican Primary Runoff for Logan County District 2 Commissioner on his third attempt. After two previous losses to incumbent Charlie Meadows, Coffman emerged triumphant in Tuesday’s vote.
“It was a long, hard-fought race, but the effort was worth it,” Coffman said in a statement to Guthrie News Page. “Meeting so many voters in District 2 was a great experience, and I’m honored to have their support. I can’t wait to get to work.”
The runoff saw the highest voter turnout of the three recent elections, with 2,012 ballots cast compared to 1,551 in June 2024 and 1,120 in June 2023. Coffman secured 1,100 votes (54.67%) to Meadows’ 912 votes (45.33%) to win the office.
Despite endorsements from Governor Kevin Stitt, Logan County District Attorney Laura Austin Thomas, and Logan County District 1 Commissioner Mark Sharpton, Meadows was unable to clinch victory. According to Coffman’s team, Meadows conceded the race in a phone call to Coffman, offering his congratulations.
Coffman expressed gratitude to his supporters, saying, “I want to thank my team who worked tirelessly on mailers, door-to-door outreach, signs, and for being a constant encouragement to myself and my family.”
Coffman won eight of the 11 precincts, including a strong showing in the northern part of the county, where he garnered 368 votes (73.74%) at Precinct 204 (Guthrie Church of the Nazarene), compared to Meadows’ 131 votes. This was an improvement from Coffman’s 61.86% at the same precinct in June 2024 and 43.41% in June 2023.
While Meadows carried southern Logan County’s three largest precincts, Coffman significantly narrowed the margins.
At a town hall meeting and on social media, Meadows had expressed 80% confidence in his chances, predicting a win with close to 60% or more of the vote.
Coffman is set to assume office in January, with the swearing-in ceremony projected for January 2.
All election results remain unofficial until certified by the county election board on Friday.
