On Monday, former Guthrie Public Schools superintendent Jack Herron announced he plans to seek the state’s highest position in education in 2014.
Herron (D) says he plans to run for the state superintendent spot currently held by Janet Barresi.
Herron told the Associated Press he worked as the assistant state superintendent for financial services until Barresi came to office in 2011.
Herron, 67, left Guthrie in the early 1990’s to take the same position in Duncan. Herron has also spent time as the superintendent in Macomb and Mangum.
Joy Hofmeister (R) and Donna Anderson (D) are also seeking the state’s top educational position.
