The City of Guthrie is inviting families to attend a free “Safe Kids Oklahoma” Car Seat Check-Up Event on Saturday, July 30th from 9am until 12pm. The event will be held in the Wal-Mart Parking Lot located at 1608 S. Division.
The group asked that for people to bring their car seats (and the children that sit in them) and find out if they meet the current safety standard guidelines for the child’s height and weight, or if there have been any recalls announced for a seat.
Using the proper child restraint seat saves lives. At this car seat check-up, safety technicians, along with City of Guthrie police officers, firefighters and police officers from the City of Langston, will teach families how to transport children correctly. Studies have found that nearly 73% of child restraints are not installed or used correctly and that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 to 14.
A limited number of free car seats will be available to families that receive state or government assistance; child must be present at the event to receive a seat. To receive more information you can contact Lauren with SafeKids OK at 405-271-5695.
