The Guthrie freshmen football team collected a 33-0 shut-out victory over Noble on Oct. 12 inside Jelsma Stadium.
Blake Curtin took the opening kickoff to the Noble 45-yard line and was quickly followed up by a 3-yard run from running back CJ Ward. Quarterback Jackson Waddell finished off the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run to give the Jays an early 7-0 lead.
Next it was the defense getting in on the action and again it was Curtin getting things going. The quick defensive back picked up a backwards pass and ran 74 yards to hit pay dirt. The two-point attempt was no good, but the Jays were rolling.
The freshmen squad found the end zone once more before the half.
This time it was Chase Allen scoring from six yards. The drive was highlighted with a 43-yard run from Ward. The Jays went into the half leading 20-0.
In the second half, the special teams got into the scoring column with a 70-yard punt return from Ward.
The final score was hauled in by Marcellous Owens when he picked up a Noble fumble and scampered in from 30 yards out.
The freshmen were back in action this past Monday when they hosted the Chisholm Longhorns junior varsity club.
The Jays jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but saw Chisolm score the final 20 points of the game inside The Rock.
After stalling out on their first drive, Ward stepped in front of a Longhorn pass to setup his own score.
Ward started the drive with a 14 yard run and followed it up with a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Jays a 7-0 lead with 3:10 left in the first quarter.
The Longhorns scored twice before the half with 22 and 4-yard runs before scoring one more time in the third quarter with a 3-yard run.
The Freshmen Jays will finish their season on Nov. 2 when they travel to Deer Creek.
