The Southeast Spartans will enter Jelsma Stadium on a four-game losing skid and winless in the district. Meanwhile, the Bluejays have won three consecutive district games with two rival games looming in the next two weeks.
The Bluejays will keep their attention on the 1-6 Spartans on Friday evening. The game can be heard on Triple Play Sports Radio 105.1 FM., streamed world-wide on both Guthrie Sports Page and Guthrie News Page websites along with the Tunein radio app. The pregame show begins at 6:30 p.m. with the kick at 7.
Guthrie, who is now 4-2 overall and 3-1 in district 5A-2, have steadily improved over the last three weeks after dropping their district opener with McGuinness, who has all but guaranteed themselves the district title.
The Jays defense held Guymon, Piedmont and Western Heights to a total of 19 points in the last three weeks. Southeast has been able to score only 19 points in their last three games with Western Heights, McGuinness and Piedmont.
The Spartans, who are endanger of matching their 1-9 record a season ago, will be underdogs beginning tonight with Guthrie and the next two weeks with Deer Creek and Carl Albert.
The lone Spartan win came in week three in a 21-14 win over U.S. Grant.
Southeast has struggled to find wins this decade with a 29-78 record.
Guthrie has won the five meetings with the Spartans dating back to 2006, including last year’s 48-0 win in Oklahoma City. In the five games, Guthrie has outscored the Spartans 262-13 with four shut-outs.
