GHS alum Brycen Sampson runs the U.S. Army 10-miler

Guthrie High School alum Brycen Sampson (Class of 2025) continues to set high standards for himself. When he commits to achieving something significant, he gives it his all.

In high school, Brycen excelled academically and was active in both Choir and JROTC. He spent four years in choir, earning superior ratings at the state solo and ensemble competition his senior year.

As a three-year member of JROTC, Brycen served as Battalion Commander his senior year, leading the program to new heights — including organizing the first-ever Wreaths Across America ceremony at Summit View Cemetery.

His dedication and strong academic record earned him several prestigious scholarships, including the University of Central Oklahoma President’s Leadership Council Scholarship, the Air Warrior Courage Foundation Scholarship, the General Tommy Franks Four-Star Leader Scholarship, a three-year Army ROTC Scholarship, and a room and board grant from UCO.

Upon arriving at UCO, Brycen was allowed to compete for a spot on the university’s Army 10-Miler team. Only six runners are selected to represent the school on an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. True to form, Brycen’s determination and hard work earned him one of those coveted spots.

Earlier this month, he traveled to the nation’s capital and joined more than 35,000 runners for the annual U.S. Army 10-Miler. Brycen finished the race in 1 hour and 15 minutes — an impressive 7:18-per-mile pace. The UCO Army ROTC team placed 29th out of 80 collegiate teams, finishing ahead of the University of Oklahoma.

Brycen is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science and working toward his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
