With Guthrie football, softball, and cross country team’s hitting the meat of their schedule, the Guthrie High School basketball teams hit the hardwood for official team practice last Friday.
The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association allows football playing schools to begin basketball practice on October 1st.
The BlueJays, who hosted and won a regional a year ago, will look to improve on a season that saw them come up a game short of the state tournament for the fifth straight year. Head Coach Pete Papahronis’ squad will look to improve on an 18-9 record from a season ago.
The Lady Jays program will return plenty of experience from a season ago, despite losing two starters. Head Coach Terry Carris will look to improve on a 7-17 season that ended in the first round of regional play.
The season will begin with two home games starting with Shawnee on December 14th. Both squads will play 13 regular season games and take in three tournaments. The Lady Jays will play in the Duncan, Chickasha, and Miami tournaments as they did a season ago. The BlueJays will participate in the same tournaments as a year ago as well with the Ardmore, McGuinness, and Carl Albert Tournaments.
