For the first time since 1978, the Guthrie High School gymnasium will be receiving new seating.
The Guthrie Board of Education unanimously (7-0) voted for the north side (visitors side) wooden bleachers to be replaced in their regular scheduled board meeting on Monday evening.
The retractable bleachers will go from wood to a plastic modular that will be scuff resistant. It is expected to be installed and ready to go by before the start of basketball and wrestling seasons in the fall.
Performance Surfaces LLC was selected, via a bidding process, to install the seating with a price tag of $67,113.00.
The south side (home) of the gymnasium, which was built with the high school in 1967, will continue with the original seating. The gym saw expansion in ’71 that added the current bleachers, weight room and locker rooms underneath.
Over the years, both sides have seen several repairs.
