Homecoming week is almost here for Guthrie High School as the school and community prepares for one of the largest high school homecoming celebrations in the state.
Homecoming week begins on Monday, October 5 and will proceed through Friday, October 9.
“We have several events that will happen throughout the week and hope you will be a part of them,” GHS senior Mollie Swartzbaugh said.
This year students have selected “Rock the Ages” as this year’s theme.
On Oct. 8 students will have a black light assembly at 8 p.m. at the high school in the main gym. Students will be performing dances, playing instruments and other various things at this assembly and the royalty court will also make an appearance.
On Oct. 9 at 9 a.m., the alumni assembly will take place in the high school cafeteria. Check in will begin at 8 a.m. and participating classes are encouraged to attend. Following the alumni assembly, students will hold an assembly in the main gym.
Homecoming Parade
The homecoming parade will be on Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. and will start at the Masonic Temple, travel down Oklahoma to 2nd street and onto Harrison Ave.
If anyone is interested in being a part of the parade you can do so by picking up a form in the main office of the high school. The forms are due to Matt Perring or Jordan Hodge at the high school by October 7 at 2:45 p.m. Entry is $20 per vehicle, or if you have five or more vehicles the cost is $100. The vehicle limit is ten. The form must be returned to be in the parade.
The homecoming football game with the Guymon Tigers will begin at 7 p.m. on Oct. 9. Schwarbaugh encourages alumni classes to sit together at the game on the visitors side. The royalty court will walk on the field at half time and the 2015 queen will be announced and crowned by the former queen.
